The College has updated its experience requirements for all applicants

Starting December 16, 2024, applicants in registration categories that require a degree or diploma may include up to one year’s worth of experience that occurs prior to graduation towards meeting the experience requirements. This acknowledges that many applicants gain relevant experience through co-op, intern and research positions while they are completing their studies.

In addition, applicants who are already a registrant with the College (or an equivalent professional regulator in another jurisdiction) may claim all their applied biology experience gained while registered (pre- or post-graduation). For example, this will allow an RPBio applicant to include the experience they gained working as an RBTech.

Other experience requirements remain unchanged, including that the experience:

  • Must meet the definition of “practice of applied biology” in the Applied Biologists Regulation
  • Must have been obtained in the 10 years prior to application
  • May be either volunteer or work experience

The College’s registration requirements may be found in the Credentialing Standard.

These changes apply to individuals with applications in progress and new applicants.

If you have questions about these changes, please contact the College’s Registrar’s Office at registrar_office@cab-bc.org.
