SUMMARY:McLeod Lake Habitat Enhancement: seeing the forest for more than just trees
DESCRIPTION:The Society for Ecosystem Restoration in Northern BC has teamed up with McLeod Lake Indian Band to assess and enhance priority areas of winter range for moose amongst other ecological and cultural objectives. Join this Wednesday\, December 3\, information session at 12 p.m. PT / 1 p.m. MT—in person or online—to learn more about this multi-year project and the results to date. \nMoose were impacted by BC Hydro reservoirs\, making them an FWCP priority species in our Peace Region and they are a species of concern for First Nations—enhanced habitat for moose will lead to healthier populations and strengthened food sovereignty. This session is hosted by UNBC with FWCP funding. \nA pilot project in our Peace Region could prove to be an economically viable model for biodiversity enhancement within landscapes that have been converted to even aged conifer plantations through current silviculture practices. \nBy integrating ecological\, cultural\, and economic objectives\, this project may provide a scalable framework for managing soil moisture\, animal populations\, and forest resilience at the stand and landscape level. \nThis project is a partnership between the Society for Ecosystem Restoration in Northern BC\, McLeod Lake Indian Band\, the University of Northern British Columbia\, the College of New Caledonia\, the Ministry of Forests\, the Province of B.C.\, and the FWCP. \nJoin us online. You must pre-register.\nJoin us in person at UNBC Prince George Campus\, Senate Chambers\, Room 1079\, Charles McCaffray Hall
